The majority of the local main roads are paved and travelling by car is speedy. You may check the weather conditions for driving – along with other road traffic related information – on the Internet pages of the Finnish Road Administration at http://www.tiehallinto.fi/alk/english/.

By train:
The closest railway stations are in Heinävesi and Savonlinna. The Heinävesi stations (Heinävesi and Vihtari) are unmanned and the tickets are sold onboard the train. If you are to arrive by train we advise that you make further transportation arrangements well in advance, as public bus services are sparse. You may ask for the telephone number of a local taxi service from the tourist information office of the municipality in question. The train timetables and fares are available at http://www.vr.fi.

By air:
The airports closest to the Kolovesi region are in Savonlinna, Varkaus, Joensuu and Kuopio. If you do not plan to hire a car locally, be sure to make arrangements for further traffic connections prior to your arrival, either from a travel company or a travel service. For further information on flight timetables see http://www.lento.net and http://www.finnair.com.

By bus:
The best bus connections are generally to the main villages of the municipalities. Among other routes Express-busses operate between Savonlinna and Kuopio and Helsinki and Joensuu. These two routes pass through the Kolovesi region. For further information see http://www.matkahuolto.fi.
